I drew and oil sketched the Elephanine Bakery on Commercial Alley in Portsmouth. I had no idea what would happen - whether the painting would work or the Bakery would consider me 'in the way'. To my great delight, neither happened. The hostess (if that is the right word) Jennie eventually came over to look and 'approve' followed by a latte and scone - no wonder they are soooo successful. The activity and the ambiance comes in bushels. In the morning light, the scene is electrifying and I hope I have captured the essence of it. Jennie and the Nadine (I hope I have the names correct) both came by and offered the appreciation all artists hope for....thank you for the hospitality and I hope you like my interpretation of the 'place'. 20 x 24" Oil, Richard Burke Jones
