Hangin Out on Monhegan

As I set up to paint on day 4 at the Trailing Yew near the washing house I was surrounded by young children watching and then running to and fro! As their mother said, “this is quintessential Maine with them running through the clothes hanging”

Maybe that is why I have been so drawn to the scene.

There is a woman who wears the sun burst t-shirt and she is very quiet but unfazed by the children. Inevitably, the clothes are loosened from their clothes pins and need to be re-hung.

Patiently and without a hint of an attitude, she re-hangs the clothes….the island relaxes us all….
